Wine Labeling Rules

This article in the Miami Herald provides an excellent introduction to how wine terms are regulated: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/05/05/2202961/stricter-wine-labeling-rules-put.html#ixzz1LX0mmhW1

As the article points out, many people think words such as Proprietors Blend, Barrel Fermented, Bottle Aged, Old Vine, Vineyard, and Reserve mean something or other – and they’re right, they do mean something, but there are no rules on what they should mean.

New proposed regulations by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau would tighten up some of these definitions.

Interesting tidbit: the word Estate Bottled is regulated and can only be used if certain conditions are met. But the word Estate is unregulated and can mean anything the winemaker wants it to.

Endorsements

At the heart of Wine Teasers Wine Game are thirty “wine bottle cards” that describe real life wines. The cards are divided into six categories that represent different styles of wines. Each card includes an image of the wine’s label, tasting notes and food pairings. The wine bottle cards were developed in cooperation with major wine producers such as Rober Mondavi, Ruffino, Banfi, Louis Jadot, Taittinger, Harveys, Iniskillin, Concha y Toro, Columbia Winery, W. & J. Graham’s, Monkey Bay and many more.

The wine bottle cards are the game’s prize: answer questions correctly, and your team qualifies to collect a wine bottle card. The first team with one card in each of the six categories wins the game.

Wine bottle cards are also perfect for individual reference or to take along when shopping for wine or wine/food combinations.

Wine Teasers content includes a healthy dose of humor, good natured insults and occasional wackiness.

Although the content is lighthearted, Jennifer Rosen’s sommelier credentials and vast experience ensure that the game contains accurate, up-to-date information.
